Wow - Scott hits home with this one! Tough, smart and eminently usable advice from a guy who has obviously conquered ‘looking the part’.

As an Image Coach and Consultant, I take Scott’s advice to heart regarding my own image and when working with my clients.

Very well done - now if everyone who hears your message applies what you teach, we’ll all be more profitable, be taken more seriously, and reach new heights of success in our respective businesses.

  2. Michael Port Says:

    Scott,

I love you man. As always, you rock. I’m falling off my chair laughing! Great post.

    Scott:

That was so very great, right on and on-target. People know me as a straight-shooter and I couldn’t have said it better myself. I’m listening to that again….

  4. (via email) Says:

This was kick-as*s content! Now that’s what I’m talking about. REAL information that people need to hear. Scott gets major props for telling the truth on a grand scale! Now, if only we can get people to understand that technology is an INVESTMENT not an expense, we’d all be better off. We all would be nowhere without technology…why don’t people understand that just like there’s a best way to use a lawn mower, there’s a “best” way of leveraging technology?

  5. Lorrie Morgan-Ferrero Says:

OMIGOD! Scott, you should have a warning on there to go to the bathroom and pee BEFORE listening to this. I can’t wait to see you when you’re an old grumpy man. I think you’ll look different but you’ll sound the same. LOL

  6. Krissy Jackson Says:

Scott - Love it! Wish I’d had you on my tail last October.

I’m on a guest on a call tonight - will definately send people over here.

    Krissy Jackson

  7. Michael Ehlert Says:

Amen brother. It takes me an hour to relay a similar message (politely). The “mitts” are off!

  8. Deborah Boland Says:

Wow, that was like throwing a bucket of cold water on someone. I love your no B.S. approach. It’s just what’s needed these days to wake people up. I never laughed so hard! Keep the messages coming. Cheers, Deborah

  9. Julie M. Perkins Says:

Back in the early 80’s during the beginning of a real estate career, I learned “pretend to be and you will be” which was based upon if I wanted to list houses over $200,000 I had to look and act like I understood what it was to be in houses of that status. Easily done being that I attended college on a drama scholarship and became a top lister for higher priced home.

  10. Danielle Keister, Virtual Assistant Says:

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

I am a Virtual Assistant, and you brilliantly, with bulls-eye precision, summed up one of the biggest frustrations I have with my industry. Those types give the rest of us a bad name!

I recently posted a similar rant on my blog at http://www.therelief.com/blog.

  11. D.R. Bennett Says:

Great insights here. Says a lot about the corporate world of marketing. Right on Scott!

  12. Diana Walker Says:

Wow! You really say it like it is.
I need to share this with several people I know.
    Diana

  13. Leslie Says:

Good points Scott, but why the fowl language? I feel you can make a point without it. This doesn’t motivate me…but I know you probably were trying to make a point.

    Blessings, Leslie

  14. Susan Perkins Says:

I hear your frustration, man! It is hard enough to get people to cough up $30!! Cheapos may be prolific…but they don’t rule and their business and success even on a personal basis will suffer…

“Nasty” words in biz? Well, I believe frustration and even anger can be effectively shown without the use of certain “street” words….

    Just my “bizcents” -

Warmest, Susan aka “The DC Connector”

  15. Janet Jordan, MVA, PREVA Says:

I agree with you wholeheartedly Scott. I have been saying this for five years now. Just said it on my blog http://www.championva.com You can’t get people to pay top dollar if you, (1) don’t understand the concept (2) don’t understand your value and (3) don’t look like a professional. If we don’t take ourselves seriously, neither will clients. You attract what you are and if your site looks like the circus came to town, you can expect to attract clowns for clients. As virtual assistants, we redeem the gift of time for our clients. Up to three months per year in fact and if we can do that, our clients will gladly pay for the value imparted. In order to do that, we have to bring our “A” game and for some, that’s out of reach.

  16. Kathie M Thomas Says:

Exactly what I try to tell new VAs in our industry, Scott. You have to spend money to make money basically. You have to look the part. And it really annoys me when people treat their business like a hobby (and not pay out for the professional services they need) on one hand and charge like a professional on the other.

  17. Bronwyn from Australia Says:

    Hi Scott,

I want to thankyou for your excellent advice! As a new Virtual Assistant I am going to take your advice and USE it. Of all the advice I have had yours is to the point and very refreshing to hear! Im not sure about all people but I like straight talking people who are down to earth. Your passion is EXCELLENT. I love it. Keep up the good work and keep those comments of yours truthfull. The world needs more of you!!!! Once again Scott, thanks for your wealth of advice and giving me a giggle. May I say ( I hope I dont offend you) your MUCH better than Anthony Robbins!!!!!
